I just thought I'd give you a heads-up on developments here at FirstMatter. As many of you know, Watts' and Ryan's new book, The Deviant's Advantage: How Fringe Ideas Create Mass Markets, will soon be available at your local bookstore (for those of you who are wired to the max, it will also be available as an e-book.) We're very excited about the new book; I have a copy on my desk, and it looks great!
Watts just finished an interview about deviance with The New York Times; that interview and a review of the book is in Sunday's (August 25) business section. The book has also been reviewed in the August issue of the Harvard Business Review.
Many of you are already aware that, being on the fringe, we here at FirstMatter utilize our own lexicon to communicate our concepts more clearly. But did you know you could access our lexicon online? Just go to any page in the newsletter area of our website, and click on the lexicon link at the bottom of the page. Is there some concept you think is missing, or some word in your lexicon you'd like to share? Drop me a line and let me know!
We're always trying to think outside the box. A manifestation of that effort appears in our newsletter in the form of sidebars -- links to other web sites that we feel can stimulate further thought on the topic at hand. Is there a web site you feel would make a good sidebar? I know our chief librarian, Darrell Stewart, would love to hear about it -- send him a message at email@example.com.
And of course, on any essay in our newsletter, you can add your own thoughts (anonymously, if you wish) by simply clicking on the talkback button. I always enjoy reading your comments.
